Overview

With a couple of subtle updates, the Gel Resolution 7 is another step forward for one of the most popular tennis shoes amongst elite and club players alike. A new upper design incorporates a TPU wrap across the entire forefoot to help lock in the foot and provide the highest level of support and stability. Asics has also lowered the external heel counter in the back of the shoe to address fit issues some people had in previous versions. What continues to set this performance shoe apart from the rest though is it's all-around performance - along with exceptional support, stability and durability you're also getting a shoe that's sublimely comfortable, well-cushioned and fast-feeling. On top of it all, the shoe is backed by a six month outsole durability guarantee! Players looking for a premium tennis shoe that gives them everything they need and then some can continue to wear the Gel Resolution with confidence!

  • Upper: Newly designed FlexionFit upper utilizes a TPU wrap over a layer of mesh across the forefoot for lightweight comfort, support and stability. The PGuard toe protector adds durability to the front of the shoe while the Personal Heel Fit collar lining molds to the back of your foot.
  • Midsole: Asics' signature GEL cushioning system in both the rear and forefoot combined with Solyte midsole technology offers plush cushioning and explosive responsiveness with each step. A midfoot Trusstic System resists twisting through the midfoot for added support.
  • Outsole: AHAR+ rubber outsole in a modified herringbone tread pattern provides exceptional traction and durability on any court surface. Backed by a six month durability guarantee.
  • Color: Black / Shocking Orange / White

Comments: I fell in love with the Gel Resolution 5s and had several pairs. I hated the 6s. They weren't comfortable, had a longer break-in period and felt very stiff. The Gel Resolution 7 is a terrific comeback. Personally, I think they resemble the 5s in terms of comfort and performance. Will keep buying.

Comments: I've been wearing the Asics Gel Resolution for years. I believe I started with the Resolution 3. The BESTbest shoes ever. However, the 7s are much snugger in the uppers. I guess it's trying to provide more stability, which I never found to be a problem with the Resolutions. The snugness has caused pain on the sides of my joints on the big toes. It also seems to take some time to break in, which I never had to do with prior editions of the Gel Resolution. I hope the Gel Resolution 8 will be more like the 6, which was a great shoe. I'm a 4.0 singles player. I have flat, narrow feet.

Comments: I'm missing the discontinued Lotto Raptor 4s so I succumbed to peer pressure and gave these a shot. Not impressed. Shoe feels mushy and unstable -- I rolled my ankle in the first half hour. Next time I'll like opt for a blast from the past and look at the current adidas Barricades.

Comments: I have been using the Gel Resolution 7 for two months now. This is my first foray into Asics shoes. (I was tired of adidas changing shoes around; I had used adidas for almost 20 years) The TW expert reviews gave me hope with the Gel Resolution 7. As a 4.0 competitive and primarily singles player with flat feet, I have found these shoes to be excellent. The only drawback is the lack of proper ventilation. The summer will tell more on that front!

Comments: I have worn Asics for the last five years. I have enjoyed every pair until the Resolution 7. The GR7 is very uncomfortable for me. My feet hurt like they have never hurt before. I am very disappointed with the quality of these shoes. While I was playing a match last night I heard a pop which felt like the bottom of my shoe was separating. I did not see any defects but now I am concerned that they will fall apart while I'm playing tennis. I wish I could return or exchange these shoes.

Comments: This is the first time I've tried Asics shoes (previously wore Nike Lunar Ballistics 1.5) -- and I have to admit, these were incredible. I had a good 2 hours play in the Gel Res 7 and they felt great, right out the box. I do have odd shaped feet that are wider than average, but short (like a hobbit). So I went a half size larger than I normally would as the smaller size started pinching. On court, they felt really stable, cushioned in the right places and grip to the court was great! I can't really find fault (other than the visual -- its pretty bright! But aesthetics aren't a priority for me)! All in all, a great shoe and think I'm a convert. Though I will reserve complete judgement in a couple weeks once I've had some good time on court with them

Comments: I have been a big fan of the Gel Resolutions since the 5s and have had many pairs. The 6s were outstanding. Unfortunately the 7 lacks cushioning in the heel that the 6's had. They feel very hard. They seem to be designed for people with flat feet, because if you have a high instep (arch) like I do, you really pop out of the laces. Barely enough lace left to get them tied. Others have mentioned the ventilation problem. Older versions had great ventilation, but Asics seems to have forgotten about the value of this feature. I guess I'll suffer through this pair and then find another brand.

Comments: I agree with part of SN's comments below. I had been wearing Gel Resolutions for 3 years and loved them. But I wore these shoes once and by the end of playing for an hour or two, my foot hurt so bad I could hardly walk to my car. I shelved them for a month, wore them again and it was fine. But the second time I wore them I had that pain again. They've been in the back of my closet ever since, and I've changed brands.

Comments: I received the Gel Resolution 7s as a replacement for the Gel Resolution 6s I wore out. I've played with them for around two months and here are my overall comments. If you have a wide foot or high arch, this is not a shoe for you. The lacing system allows for some widening of the shoe, however, this causes much slippage which ended up with my outermost toe to bleed noticeably. This shoe also causes my arch on my right foot to ache quite a bit, making me hesitant to make movements forward and side to side. The ventilation wasn't poor but nothing special either. With that out of the way, here's what I found positive about the shoe. It had good cushioning at the heel, the durability feels improved without much weight, and the stability is quite solid. Unfortunately, I feel the deficits far more than the benefits due to my foot and will be moving away from Asics. The 6s were spectacular but I definitely don't enjoy tennis as much with the 7s.

Comments: I am a big fan of the Gel Resolution series. The first series I put on my foot, I fell in love. That was the Resolution 2 (I think). However Asics needs to go back to a previous series like 6 or 4 where the shoes really fits true to size and felt like slippers. The best shoe for stability and support but they keep messing with the width and design too much. If I wear a 12.5 in the 6 then why is the 7 so much tighter?

Comments: Great tennis shoe! The cushioning (I have a very high arch and medium width) and construction are superb, but what I appreciate most is the solid balanced contact the balls of my feet and heels have with the court. Feels like a launching pad, really. Some, I see, have complained about snugness in the 10.5 size, but just shoe tree them overnight when they arrive (like I did yesterday) and for a few days after. Then just insert the cardboard trees that come in each shoe from then on. I have done this with every pair of Asics 5s, 6s, Speed 3s, etc. and the results are a glove fit.
From: Mike, 11/30/17

Comments: I have to wear 2 pairs of socks to keep my heels from slipping. Never had this problem with the Gel Resolution 6, which fit perfectly. Constant change is not always a good thing if you're making tennis shoes.
From: Michael, 10/18/17

Comments: I have been a previous owner of Gel Resolution 5s, 6s and now 7s and I am normally a big time fan of this shoe. I liked the 7's fit better than the previous versions (I have a narrow foot wtih flat arch), but yes, they play warmer than previous versions. However, I have had a serious problem with the outsole on the sevens. Normally, the previous versions lasted me approximately five months of play -- I play regularly around six to seven hours a week. However, I broke through the outsole after only 2.5 months of play on the 7s. Another problem is that the shoes were annoyingly loud and squeeky on the court compared to the previous versions. From this, I have concluded that the outsole is softer and less durable than previous versions; I am not happy as a result.

Comments: Groundhog day with the Gel Resolution. 10 years or so ago, I bought the very first model, which was awesome, but didn't wear well. My experience has been this shoe seesaws back and forth with every new iteration. They get worse - - then better -- then worse again -- at least for my feet. Then I back off from the shoe for a few years and try it again, most recently, with the 6s. Just as I get fired up once more on how comfortable they are, they change again, and not for the better. Compared to the 6s: 1) These fit much narrower and don't improve much over time. 2) They are also hot -- or not ventilated, or a combination of both. 3) Cushioning, or lack of, relative to the 6s, completes the trifecta! When I compare 2 or 3 hours on these 7s vs a pair of nearly worn out 6s, there is no comparison. My feet hurt from the lack of shock absorption on the 7s. Looks like I'm back off of the GRs again for a few years.
From: Steve, 9/29/17

Comments: These may be the best shoes I have ever worn! I have played in the 6s as well as other previous models. I see complaints regarding the ventilation but I am good with that as I think it fixed the only minor issue I had with the 6s which was that they were a little unstable in the front upper most likely due to too much mesh. I am OK with a little break in period for the premium stability these shoes provide. In my opinion, these are the best performance shoes on the market as the Barricades can be stiff and narrow and the Nike 9.5 Vapor Tours don't last that long. The sizing was accurate for my size 9 medium width foot unlike the 6s which were a 1/2 size too long.
From: Tom, 9/25/17

Comments: I played through 2 pairs of Gel Resolution 6s and just purchased my second pair of 7s. I love these shoes. In my opinion they are the best shoes on the market. When I began playing in them I had knee pain and a nagging foot low grade foot injury. Those issues went away soon after I switched to the Gel Resolutions. I play everyday in Florida. The 7s are a bit hotter than the 6s but they also provide more structure for the foot. Is "hot feet" really a serious complaint?
From: Michael, 9/20/17

Comments: I echo the comments of others. 1) These shoes do not breathe as well as prior models, so prepare to sweat out of them in your summer matches. 2) This model fits significantly tighter than prior models, so maybe order half a size up. In addition, 3) the laces are too short to tie an effective runner's loop; and 4) the upper on the toe box is very stiff (which adds to the heat). In sum, this model is a miss.
From: John, 8/8/17

Comments: I loved the Asics Resolution 6, switched from Nike Cage after using those for 10 years. The 7s have the same great fit and cushioning as the 6s, but the breathability is way down. I ordered them in black and they get pistol hot in the summer. I can feel the all plastic toe box burning my toes, whereas the fabric toebox of the 6s were great -- maybe not as durable, but maybe the best I've ever worn for heat management.
From: Mike, 7/31/17

Comments: I'd suggest going up a half size if you have wider feet. These shoes have a more narrow toe box compared to the Gel Resolution 7.
From: Hoanh, 7/7/17

Comments: I played in the Gel Resolution 6 and enjoyed them a lot. I wore a size 10.5. I ordered the 7s and the fit is much more snug and sent the 10.5s back for 11s. I hope I'm not stuck between sizes. I like a snug fit, but not this snug.
From: Ryan, 7/4/17

Comments: I'm a big, big fan of Asics. But this model was really narrow in the toe box. More than previous models and it didn't stretch out after hours of court time. I really have a hard time believing most men can wear this shoe especially if also using orthotics.
From: Becca, 6/4/17

Comments: Nice shoe, but I had to re-order them a half size larger to fit the same way my Resolution 6 does.
From: YNB, 5/29/17

Comments: I was extremely disappointed with this shoe. It has great cushioning and support like its predecessors, but there were two big deal breakers for me. The first one was the narrower width of the toe box; my pinky toe was badly bruised and battered after just a few hours of wearing it. The second one was the breathability; this shoe plays significantly hotter than the Gel Resolution 6 -- a direct result of the reinforcement strips over the top mesh, which also causes the shoe to not mold to the shape of my foot well. Luckily, a local store had the Gel Resolution 6 in stock, so I bought a couple of pairs.
From: Harshad, 5/22/17

Comments: This is an optimal shoe for tennis players that have flat feet or feet with fallen arches. I wore the 6s, and while the arches in those were ok they were just a tad too high for my arches. Subjectively, the arches are lower, allowing me to play longer matches without being fatigued as easily. The upper material that covers the forefoot acts in a different way that feels odd, but I am only writing this review after 3 hours of a high school match; the upper material should soften up which in turn allows for more comfort. To give you an idea as to how I move my feet, I don't move my feet that often unless I am attempting to lob a ball which leads me to run like Bolt. I wear out the forefoot and rear sides of shoes the hardest; the Gel Resolution 6s had decent enough rubber to last me but I am not sure about other players. Cushioning is exceptional as usual and while stability is also magnificent.
From: Henry, 4/13/17

Comments: This is an excellent shoe. If you have worn any previous version of the Gel Resolution, this shoe will feel familiar. Much improved fit over the Resolution 5 and 6, in that finally the foot sits inside the shoe, vs. the prior feeling of being somewhat on top it with heel slippage. This model is much improved in the heel and ankle fit area. I rate the cushioning on this shoe as the best of all brands I have tried. It is plush without being mushy. The sole feels nice and rigid taking a lot of stress of your feet and the ride is close to the ground. The forefoot cushioning is miles better than the Nike Vapors, although the Nike Vapors feel lighter and more "minimal" that this shoe. Highly recommend this shoe to protect you from knee/ankle pain. The only negative I can find is the tongue is very soft and the laces can put pressure on the top of my foot, probably something very specific to each person' foot shape.
From: Gtechy, 4/2/17

Comments: I have worn the Gel Resolutions for the past 5 versions -- this update does not disappoint. Instant comfort and cushioning with no break-in required. I have a narrow foot and this shoe laces down nicely with a snug fit with no movement. The stability is good and with a proper wicking sock (Feetures) the shoe breathes reasonably well. You cannot go wrong with this shoe -- one of the best on the market.
From: Mike, 2/28/17

Comments: Great shoe for 2017! I've used the GR5 and the GR6 for the last two years and this new GR7 plays a lot like the GR5 just because of the fit and also the P Guard toe protector and also the newly redesigned flex on fit as well.
From: Justin, 2/11/17

Comments: I wrote the first review of this shoe. Initially they were very comfortable. However, after playing for longer periods of time, I found that the toe box is too narrow for my feet. My toes began to bruise and the shoes are too uncomfortable to wear any longer. I never had that problem with the Nike Vapor 9.5 -- I will return to that shoe.
From: Tom, 1/17

Comments: Used the GR6 for the last 2 years in size 9 with thin socks. The shoes would be slightly tight initially but the uppers seemed to give way a lot after a week or two. There was heel slippage which meant I had to use a heel-lock lacing system to feel really secure or just lace to the last hole which wasn't very comfortable. By comparison, the GR7 doesn't seem to have an upper that relaxes as much, I am now in a 9.5 with thick socks and they fit fine. Initially I felt like there was heel slippage but since I have used the shoe for a couple of sessions that heel slippage sensation seems to have disappeared. Otherwise it is very much like the GR6 in terms of performance, lots of support and comfort stemming from the cushioning and the medium to medium wide width.
From: Wayne, 12/16

Comments: Great shoe. I'd put it right up there with my Nike Vapor 9.5 because of the snug fit without heel slippage. I played a couple days with the shoes and found there was no break-in time needed. However, I would like to see more color combinations on future releases.
