Overview

The V-Cell 9 updates the V-Feel 9 with a softer and more responsive feel but keeps the speedy and spin-friendly precision of the previous generation. At 11.5 ounces strung, this racquet is weighted for intermediate and advanced players. It also packs a thick 23-26mm beam, giving it the crisp, solid and lively response that has come to define the best modern player's racquets. For 2020, Volkl has lowered the RA-stiffness, resulting in a welcomed boost in feel and pocketing. This update also adds extra V-Cell material (a cellulose based carbon) to the shaft and head for a more comfortable, stable and responsive hitting experience. Like the previous generation, this racquet's butt cap and REVA based handle system have been meticulously designed to deliver a smoother, more arm-friendly feel at impact. From the baseline the V-Cell 9 not only feels firm, lively and precise, but it also pack a speedy sub-320 RDC swingweight. The speedy feel not only makes it easier for you  to scramble on defense or hit winners on the run it also translates seamlessly into vicious stroke speed, resulting in juicer levels of pace and spin. At net the V-Cell 9 has adequate stability, and it comes around fast to deliver a crisp and lively feel. On serve, the combination of speed, spin and precision will bring out your aggressive side. With some incremental updates to the feel, the V-Cell 9 continues to offer intermediate and advanced players an impressive combination of speed, spin, power and precision.

Quick and ComfortableA little more weight (than the ubiquitous 300 gram frames) and a good deal more headlight is a very nice throwback combination. Combined with Volkl's successful comfort technologies, this makes for a very nice frame that suits a variety of styles. Hits solidly from the backcourt with ample power and plenty of control, head whips around nicely on serve for accurate and quick serves. Volleys require a bit of care as stability is adequate but not dazzling. I prefer this frame to the Volkl "8" series and recommend a demo if you're looking at 100 square inch frames.

Previous Feedback

Comments: Amazing racquet and sleeper frame. Volkl should be selling a lot of these. It has a great combination of power and control. It is what the Babolat Pure Control Tour should be - a more arm friendly control oriented Babolat Pure Drive Tour. I have been playing with the Volkl Super G 10 Mid 320 for the past 7 years and with various Volkl Tour 10's since 2004. I never thought that I would play with a stiff 100 square inch racquet, but Volkl does such a great job with dampening that you get great arm protection and feel. The V-Cell 9 is also super stable for it's weight. I give up some precision and control with the 10 series for a larger sweet spot and more power. This is a fantastic frame for 3.0 - 4.0 level players. Ten years ago, I was faster and could keep up with the 4.5 guys that are 20 years younger than me, but now I can use a little more help from my racquet so that I do not need to work so hard and be so precise. I string mine at 55/52 with a full bed of polyester strings. I really enjoy a lower powered round poly in this frame. With oval shaped frames, I prefer to string the crosses 3 pounds lower than the mains. It opens up the sweet spot a bit more. I do the same with my Yonex frames. Great job, Volkl. You really did a great job with the V-Cell 9.

Comments: After using V-Feel 8 315g for a few years, I thought I'd just try this frame on account of the modest change, as well as white aesthetic. I'm a sucker for classic white frames. I strung it with Tecnifibre Pro Red Code 17 at 55 pounds, and this thing is comfy! I love the pop on groundstrokes. On first impressions, serves were a little erratic, but nothing missed short into the net. This is a fantastic sign. Overall, I think I'm going to like the slightly lower weight if I stick with this for a few weeks. If you're coming from the Volkl family [Feel, Sense, Cell etc] over the last few years, it's an easy transition. It has fantastic modern frames with some of that classic feel/feedback. Good for players looking for comfort, control and want to spend hours on court without arm fatigue.

Comments: A really great racquet. I had been using the V-Feel 10 320 grams for the last six months of last year, then the V-Feel 8 315 for the last two months. I have now played six times with the V-Cell 9 and I find it has the power of the 8, but with a much more consistent launch angle, and the control of the 10 with great feel for volleys, drop shots, and slice backhands. Also the slightly lighter weight allows for more acceleration of the racquet head for topspin shots. I have it strung with Volkl V-Square 17 at 52 pounds. It is also great for serving, both flat and kick with plenty of power on tap, and at the same time is very comfortable on my arm. Overall a really great racquet.

Comments: I tried nearly a dozen different new racquets to find the perfect replacement, and the V-Cell 9 was the winner for me. In the past I used a much heavier, control-oriented racquet, and this is a refreshing change. The stiffness allows the head to be extremely light and whippy while still maintaining enough power. The technology in the racquet prevents the stiffness from irritating your arm. They left just enough weight in the handle to keep it stable and give it some momentum. For me this is truly the goldilocks racquet. I highly recommend giving this fantastic racquet a try.

Comments: I've been playing with the Prince Beast Long Body and this Volkl has just as much stability as the Beast, but much better feel. An absolute pleasure to hit with. I extended the length by 3/8 of an inch and added a small amount of lead under the butt cap. The racquet now weighs 342 grams or right at 12 ounces. Strung at 54 and 51 pounds with Babolat VS gut on the mains, and Luxilon ALU Power Rough on the crosses. This string combination provides more than enough power and spin. I played three sets of singles without any arm fatigue.
