Updated with a more stable construction for 2024, this classic racquet offers the kind of control and feel that never gets old

Introducing the Blade 98 18x20 v9! Defined by its dense 18x20 string pattern and flexible box beam, this update delivers the laser-like targeting and phenomenal ball feedback that has drawn generations of players to the Blade family. It also packs a 330 swingweight, enabling it to comfortably redirect higher levels of pace while also giving experienced players enough mass to drive the ball through the court. As with the previous generation, the Blade 98 18x20 v9 incorporates Direct Connect Technology, fusing the butt cap directly to the carbon fiber handle for increased stability. It also retains Wilson's FortyFive layup technology, which increases lateral flexibility to complement the explosive vertical mechanics of the modern game. New for 2024 is StableFeel technology, which introduces a slightly firmer construction for greater stability and easier access to power. Experienced ball strikers will appreciate the new Clip & Go grommet system, which not only locks down the bumper but also makes for easier grommet replacement. Ultimately, with subtle updates to the feel and response, the Blade 98 18x20 v9 continues to be an obvious option for experienced players looking for control and feel.

Very good but watch the specsI have played 4 or 5 versions of the Blade 98 18x20 and tend to like the crisper ones. I demoed the V9, liked it and it played like my v7's but a little crisper. I paid 20 bucks to match 3 for me. The spec on the racquet is 10.8 oz. The three I got were 10.95 +/- .03oz. So already pretty far from spec. I compared the balance to my v7's and these were maybe 3 points more HL than my v7's. So it's been an adjustment. I've been doing things like using half of a thin overgrip and very light shock absorber to try to mitigate the weight/balance issues (I don't want to add weight). I do like them but the ones I received are significantly different than the demo I received and I've been struggling because of it. It's starting to come around but it is an issue.

Very slightly quicker and crisper than the v7Moved from the v7. Feels a hair thinner beamed even though they look alike. Demo had NXT which was a little too powerful and then it softened up and got wild. My usual IsoSpeed Pro 17 feels a little stiff and I'll be trying out strings. In general, it's an 18x20 Blade. You better drop the racquet head on the backswing if you want to get the ball up and down. But you can hit spots pretty exactly. I like Blades for their stability at this weight and their ability to have a pretty consistent stringbed (rather than a large falloff from the sweet spot) but this is string dependent. If you liked previous Blades, you'll like this one. A little less muted than some and very comfortable to swing.

Definitely better than the V8Upon playing with this V9 18x20, you’ll notice right away the stiffness and greater plow through compared to the V8, which was more soft and had a buttery feel that required you to use more arm power and strength to hit a powerful groundstroke. Not in the V9. The V9 is a bit more demanding than the V8 and I felt like my groundstrokes were sailing a bit at times, even on my serves, because of the change in stiffness. It’s superb on flat shots over topspin shots. The best part of this racquet is the feel, where you can play without even a dampener and when you hit the sweetspot, it’s like a laser point with great control. This racquet is definitely an upgrade for sure from the V8, but I think this is more for high 3.5/4.0 players just because I feel it's maybe too “powerful” even for a Blade to beginners.

Great all around players frameAmazing feel and soft. It has a great contact sensation. Very predictable and consistent response off the stringbed. Be wary of how demanding it can be if you're not at least a 4.0+. Also, it looks gorgeous in person.

I don't like the new color. The paint job on V8 is much better.
